We all know how difficult it can be to settle into a new home. Your moving day will be incredibly stressful, and you just want to get moved from the old place and into the new one. However, you will almost certainly want to transform your new house into a family home as soon as possible.
Thankfully, the job isn’t complicated, and you just need some tips and advice from someone who’s been there before. As you will learn, the new house is a blank slate, and a chance to start from scratch. It is also a good idea to hang photographs in certain locations. That said; you don’t want to go overboard. You still want the house to look attractive to guests.
Ask your children about their bedrooms
When asking a child which colours they would like in their bedroom, you only have to take inspiration from their answer. At the end of the day, you want your schemes to coordinate, and so it might not be wise to take their advice if they want a black room. However, painting in colours that your children like is almost certainly going to help them settle in. Sometimes it’s a good a to paint with foam, but that’s up to you. You should also look towards getting some posters or pictures of their favorite musicians, actors or cartoon characters.
Hang family photographs
The basic rule of thumb when hanging family photographs is that you don’t want more than three or four in the same room. That should help to guarantee that your home still looks stylish to anyone who might visit. You could even get some cheap canvas prints if you have lots of good digital images. So long as you shop around, that isn’t going to break the bank. Some websites offer fantastic deals, especially if you’re buying multiple prints.
Purchase a dining room table
Depending on the size and shape of your home, buying a dining room table might be a good idea. Does your old table fit in your new home? Is it pretty worn and tattered? A dining room table will make your house seem more homey. You can eat a meal with your children every night without worrying about spills. Also, eating at a table will give you the opportunity to ask about your child’s day.
Remove those sharp edges
If your children are under the age of ten, it might be wise to go around your home and remove any sharp edges. While a marble countertop might look appealing in your kitchen, it could prove dangerous if your kids slip. No family home would have dangers like that, and so you must deal with them as quickly as possible. Thankfully, there are many rubber products that allow you to sort the issue without getting the sander out.
Whatever you decide to do over the coming weeks, we hope you manage to create the perfect family home for your loved ones. You just need to think ahead and don’t be afraid to try new things.
