With fall winding down, and winter right around the corner, we’re spending more and more time in the house. Unfortunately, this also means the windows are shut, and our homes tend to get stuffy. Freshen your space up with this Harvest Stovetop Potpourri.
Usually, we depend upon air purifiers and chemical air fresheners or room sprays. And while those are great items, and I have them in my own home, sometimes you want something a little more natural. Stovetop potpourri is a perfect option.
What is Stovetop Potpourri
Stovetop potpourri is a simmering pot of things that smell good. Contents usually include herbs, spices, and a little bit of fruit. You put these items in a large pot of simmering water on your stove. The scent fills the air, and freshens your home.
It’s truly that easy. Also known as simmer pots, this is an old school trick for realtors selling houses, too. It gives a house that homey feel, without being overpowering or artificial.
We’ve created a fall harvest stovetop potpourri recipe that’s perfect to bring that warm, subtly spicy aroma to your home. Of course, this is great to carry you straight through winter, too.

Most of the items you need for this can be found around your house. You might need to pick up the spices, but those are fairly easily found. You’ll need some cinnamon sticks. The longer ones are better, but the short ones work fine, too. You’ll just use a few more of them. You’re also going to need some star anise pods. They smell good, and look so pretty. Just in case someone peeks into your simmer pot. Or you can get the combo set of cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
You can get a second simmer pot use out of these ingredients. Let them cool down, and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within 3-4 days. Harvest Stovetop Potpourri
