Snowmen are one of the quintessential characters of the holiday season – and beyond. Why not make your own with just a few items that you probably already have at home.
This cute Upcycled Snowman Mason Jar is so easy to make, even if you’re not super crafty.
Links may be commissioned.
While we used a pint sized mason jar, you could easily use any decent sized jar you have at home. These would be great made with a pasta sauce jar, a pickle jar, or something similar.
How to Make a DIY Upcycled Snowman Mason Jar
Supplies
- Mason Jars – we used pint sized ones.
- White Acrylic Paint
- Foam Paint Brush – I prefer 2 inch wide ones
- Bow
- 3 Black Buttons
- Pencil
- Hot Glue Gun
- Flameless tea light candles (optional)
Directions
1. Wash and dry your mason jar. Make sure your jar doesn’t have any oily or greasy areas, paper, or glue residue.
2. Apply a coat of white acrylic paint, let dry. Apply a second coat if needed. Let dry completely.
3. At the top of the mason jar, add a small amount of hot glue. Secure the bow in place by holding it for a minute.
4. Lay mason jar flat. On the same side as the bow, place each button onto the jar where you would like to see them glued. Use this time to space them how you’d like. Using a pencil, mark the spot.
5. Remove the buttons and place a small amount of hot glue on the marked area. Put the button on the hot glue and hold in place for a minute for it to set.
6. Set aside and let the hot glue set completely. Finish by adding a battery operated tealight candle to the inside. This is totally optional, but it gives your upcycled mason jar snowman family a nice glow.
Aren’t these mason jar snowmen adorable? You could create a whole upcycled jar snowman family or village. These would be great with different sized jars, too.
These are also a great way to give a small gift for a neighbor or co-worker. Fill them with candy, cookies, or other small items.
