How did you meet your significant other? Was it through a mutual friend, at a club, or maybe even online? Once you met, and went on a date, there must have been some kind of connection. After all, you’re still together. Every relationship ebbs and flows, though. There may come a time though when complacency and boredom sneak into a relationship and the relationship hits a few snags.
Most people want their partners to keep them stimulated both mentally and physically, and when one starts to fade their eyes begin to wander. Relationships seem to fall into a routine quickly, but you or your partner may crave excitement. So… how do we get the ball rolling again like when we were first dating and everything was exciting? We have a few simple relationship tips that will reignite the spark.
Keep Your Relationship Electric
Just like a static electricity shock is a surprise, this should be how your relationship is. Keep your partner guessing by doing something new. It helps to keep the spark alive. Think of all the fun you had when you started dating, and try to reflect on those moments. Why was it fun? If you’ve fallen into a routine in your relationship, try to do something totally unexpected. Maybe it’s an unplanned weekend getaway or going to a movie or concert together.
Another way to surprise your partner is with small gifts or trinkets. Jewelry, flowers, lingerie, or their favorite candy are all good choices, as it shows you are thinking about them.
Schedule Fun Dates Where You Do Something Different
When you first started dating, you couldn’t wait to see that person. Sometimes you’d have to wait all week just to spend a couple hours together. When you get too comfortable with a person, you start falling into boring, complacent patterns. In a recent national study, it was shown that couples who have regular date nights are three times happier because it releases stress and opens lines of communication. One of my favorite relationship tips is to schedule dates with your partner and try fun new activities together. Ideas can include:
- Take a cooking class
- Take dance lessons
- Take scuba or snorkel lessons
- Take pottery or painting classes
- Take up paintball
- Join a club where you both participate
- Bungee jump or skydive
- Try joining a co ed sports team like softball or kickball
Spend Time with Other Couples
If you’ve tried just about everything when it comes to reigniting your relationship, try spending time with another couple that you know. It’s even better if you have some things in common, but diverse interests as well. If for some reason, you don’t have another couple to spend time with, then you might want to try to meet other couples. The activities mentioned above are great ways to make new friends.
We, as humans, all are guilty of falling into continuous routines and habits, and it can be true about our relationships as well. Keep your relationship with your partner electric by exploring new ways to have fun together. It will help chase boredom away and keep your relationship strong.
