Music to Motivate

Music has always been one of the things that I enjoy.  I’ve always had really eclectic tastes and have liked a wide variety of styles and genres.  It’s funny, because really the only genres I don’t like are Jazz and modern R&B.  Oddly enough, I don’t like them for the same reason – I’m not a fan of music that veers off on its own tangent.

That's one of the reasons that I love Spotify.  I can listen to, literally, just about any song ever recorded.  Oh, don't mind if I do!

Just about everything else, though, is fair game for my play list.  A few of my favorite songs right now.

Early Bird vs Night Owl

alarmclocks Early Bird vs Night Owl

Are you a morning person or a night owl?   For me, I have to admit – I am a little of both.  If I’m ready to get up in the morning, I practically spring out of bed and get right to business.  If it’s a work at home day, I’m up and at my computer quickly.  If I have to go in to work or be somewhere, I can be out of the house in about 15 or 20 minutes.

However, I’ve found that I get my best sleep between about 7 am and 11 am.  That works fine if I’m working at home that day, but it’s not so good if I actually have to be somewhere.

Would You Bungee Jump? #nablopomo

bungee sign Would You Bungee Jump? #nablopomo

Would you ever go bungee jumping?  I have to say, I am pretty dang sure that is a no-go here.  I have a bit of a fear of heights.  Well, that’s not totally true.  I am not afraid of heights so much as plunging to my death.  And I’m not an adrenaline junkie.

Sooo, I probably would not be standing on a bridge, waiting to jump off.  For fun.  Nuh uh.  Pretty much no way.

Scary Movies – Yay or Nay? #nablopomo

alfredhitchcock Scary Movies Yay or Nay? #nablopomo

I remember my first scary movie.  I was visiting my dad and my step mom pretty much let us watch anything we wanted. There were a couple of very b-movie slashers called Sleepaway Camp about these kids that were way at summer camp and were getting killed.  They were about 13 or so, so it was supposed to be extra scary to us 7 + 8 year olds.  It wasn’t scary at all, and was really more groan-inducing than anything.  You totally would have been able to see the zipper on the suit if it was that kind of movie.

After seeing that I could totally cope, we moved on to Nightmare on Elm Street.  I think we started with #4, which is still my favorite of the series.  I think #2 is after that, but I can’t totally remember.  That’s the one where the dude that has razorblade nails chases the kids, right?   Heh.

How To Get Rid of Hiccups #nablopomo

hiccups diagram How To Get Rid of Hiccups #nablopomo

I’ve always had chronic hiccups.  It started when my mom was pregnant and has basically never stopped.  When I was in grades 3and 4, I had hiccups everyday for about 18 months.  That suuuucckkkkedddd…although I do believe it helped me to develop strong core muscles.

Through all of this, people have always offered suggestions or their own special remedies.  Drink a whole glass of water without taking a breath.  Hold your breath for 30 seconds.  Stand on your head.  Run around backwards in a circle three times.

5 Ways to Deal with Nervousness #nablopomo

keep calm who kidding (320 x 400) 5 Ways to Deal with Nervousness #nablopomo

How do you deal with nervousness?

1.  Deep breathing.  Deep, deep breaths.  In through the nose, out through the mouth.  Be sure that they go through the diaphragm, too.

2. Try to reason with yourself.  What’s making you nervous?  Why does it make you nervous?  Is it related to a negative experience?  If you can figure this out, sometimes, you can get beyond the nervous feeling.

3. Recognize that others are as nervous as you are.  Whether you’re going into a meeting, or speaking in front of a crowd, rest assured that others are feeling the same way!

4. Realize that it will be over soon.  While it may feel like an eternity, generally, your nerves only get the better of you for a few minutes at best.

5. RELAX!  It’s all gonna be okay!

Do you have any tips for dealing with Nervousness?

Panic! In the Driveway #nablopomo

Yesterday, I told you about critters that give me the creepy crawlies.  *shudder*  Today’s topic is “Describe a time when you felt nervous and jumpy.”  Welll…this is going to be part two from yesterday.

When I was living in the California desert, there was always some kind of lizard or reptile kickin' it in the driveway.  My house had a really wide cement driveway, so it would absorb the heat and was smooth to lay on.  We had some kind of lizard that looked like a small Komodo dragon that lived in the front yard.  Sometimes it would be sunning itself in the driveway.  Sometimes the critter would be some variety of its brethren.

Which Critters Give You the Heebie Jeebies #nablopomo

I have to admit, there aren’t a whole lot of animals that give me the heebie jeebies.     However, snakes are one of these animals.

Having spent a big chunk of my life in the California desert, I am pretty used to Rattlesnakes and other various poisonous snakes.  Since basically all snakes there are poisonous, I really wanted absolutely nothing to do with them!  Unlike some people, I will not be posting a picture of snakes.

One year, there was a severe shortage of Rattlesnake anti-venom.  This was in the early 2000s, if I recall correctly.  Anyway, there were all sorts of public service announcements stating that we should stay away from rattlers (well, duh!) and probably shouldn’t go hiking.  Ok, I can get behind that!

Not to mention the various scorpions, spiders, tarantulas, and other various creepy crawlies.

I also am not a huge fan of  grasshoppers and crickets.  I don’t like those mainly for the reasons that you never know where the buggers are gonna go!

Oddly enough, I have no issue with lizards or other reptiles.  We’re cool with one another.

What about you?  What kind of critters give you the heebie jeebies?

Is Your Glass Half Empty or Half Full #nablopomo

Is my glass half empty or half full?  I suppose that would depend on who you asked, or how you looked at it.  I generally try to be an optimist, but sometimes life just kicks you.  Dang hard.

My hours at my day job were cut in half.  OUCH!  However, due to some other freelance jobs, savings, and blog opportunites, it hasn’t impacted me too negatively.  I’ve made cutbacks, but I also have time to do some stuff that I’ve wanted to do.  Pursue other opportunites and such.

We had an opportunity to move to Vancouver, BC.  Vancouver is one of the greatest cities in the world.  However, the boy passed on the job and sort of changed career paths.  Sad trombone for me, but he’s totally jazzed.

I told you about unpacking recently.  I have come across more and more stuff that I couldn’t find.  It’s amazing what happens!

So how about you?  Optimist or pessimist?

Does Your Heart Sing? #nablopomo

Image courtesy of Reddit/Imgur.  Let the Awwws commence!

What makes my heart sing?  Hmmm…That’s a toughie.

There’s a difference between something that makes you happy, something you enjoy, and something that makes your heart sing.  For example, packages in the mail make me happy.  I enjoy crafting or creating and traveling.  But what makes my heart sing?  I really don’t know.

Is that bad?  I bet it’s bad.  Puppies might make my heart sing.  But then again, I might just like them a lot.  Good (or bad, as the case may be!) music makes me ridiculously happy, but again – not heart-singing.

I’m not even really sure I understand what it means when your “heart sings.”  What does it mean to you?
