My Fantastic Fitness Voyage

elliptical 543 x 600 My Fantastic Fitness Voyage

I am making another go with getting fit.  I have said this for a while now, but this time, I’m going to do it.  For reals.

I really don’t know why it’s taking me sooo ling to get back into it.  I can use the excuse that it’s been cold outside, which it has.  Or I can use the excuse that I was pretty sick for a while, which I was.  Well, that’s actually a really good excuse, now, isn’t it?  But the real thing is, I’ve just been a slacker.

Aurorae Northern Lights Yoga Mat Review

aurorae2 Aurorae Northern Lights Yoga Mat Review

Yoga is one of those activates that allows your body and mind to become one.  It’s great for reducing stress, clearing your mind, and increasing your physical fitness.  While Yoga used to be only for the crunchiest of the crunchy, in the past 10years or so, it’s really entered the mainstream.  I mean, hey – even professional athletes are huge fans of yoga!

Aurorae Yoga is a family owned business.  They’ve been making yoga mats since 2001.  The company has won several awards, including a top service award from Amazon.  Dennis Ingui started doing yoga when he had cancer.  He found yoga to be a great outlet to regain his strength and develop his own inner peace.  And the rest, as they say, is history.

Running vs Walking

running (400 x 300) Running vs Walking

Rachel at Rachel’s Reviews and Giveaways is in training for a half marathon!  Can you imagine?  I could never ever ever run a half marathon.  Heck, I’m not sure I could run a 5k or a 10k.  Nor would I really want to, honestly.

I’ve never been a fan of running.  I’m sure part of that is being full-busted.  I don’t really need two black eyes from my workout, know what I mean?   Swimming has always been my preferred form of fitness.  We’ve always had a swimming pool though.  If not in our own backyard, at least in our subdivision or complex.

Eating Light – Light on Calories, Not on Flavor

eatinglight 330 x 400 Eating Light Light on Calories, Not on Flavor

I like to eat.  A lot.  Some might say I even over indulge.  That may be.  I don’t always eat unhealthy, though and I‘m always looking for ways to make my everyday meals more waistline friendly.

Hearst Publishers, the folks that bring us magazines we all know and love, has compiled a collection of low calorie recipes in this book titled Eating Light,  All of the recipes are under 400 calories.  The recipes came from well-known publications like Good Housekeeping, Country Living, Redbook, and Woman's Day.  How awesome is that?  There were recipes that looked and sounded really good, too.    Like Caramel Pecan Sticky Buns  that used butter and pecans and sugar and replaced the dough with lowfat biscuits.  I’d try it.

Get Skinny: The 6 Week Body Challenge – Book Review

It’s that time of year again when everyone’s starting to think about getting back into shape.  Personally, I more of a believer in lifestyle changes than the “do this and get quick results.”   Those quick results never seem to last long, nor are they easy to stick to.

That’s part of the reason I was glad to hear about Scott Schmaltz’s new book Get Skinny: The 6 Week Body Challenge.  It takes an honest approach, starting at the beginning.  Let’s make some small changes to your life.  I am fond of saying “you didn’t get fat overnight, you’re not going to lose it overnight.”  Of course, that’s, uh, not always as motivating as I mean it to be!  Heh.  Get Skinny has the same approach.

The book is divided into 6 sections – one for each week.  There’s also a 1-day sample menu.  I don’t mind eating the same thing every day.  Heck, I’ve gone through major stretches of my life where I’ve eaten the same thing practically every day for a year or more.  Other people who are less of a creature of habit may find that a little limiting.  I was also a little put-off by the fact that there was a recipe each week that you had to buy for $0.99.  I mean, I’m already spending $18 on a book, now you want me to pay another buck for the recipe?  I’d be much more interested in subscribing to a week’s worth of menu plans for $3 or $4.
