I am a huge fan of t shirts and jeans. I think it’s an easy look that anyone can pull off, no matter your size, shape, or gender. Just because you’re wearing a t-shirt doesn’t mean that it has to be a boring nothing look. There are all kinds of shirts out there with fabulous artwork and unique cuts.
Midnight Swimming takes both of these features and melds them together. What do I mean, and what makes them different from other boutique t-shirt manufacturers?
When I was a kid, the digital thermometers that were used in the ear came out in wide release. I have to admit, I thought that was the coolest thing ever! You can take my temperature by sticking this in my ear for a couple seconds rather than holding this thing in my mouth for three minutes?! SOLD!
As an adult, I still thought the ear thermometers were a great idea. Until I discovered the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer. The Exergen thermometer takes your temperature by running it across the forehead.
One of the things that just about any chef worth their salt has in their cabinet is good quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and a quality balsamic vinegar.

When I was a kid, I watched a lot of TV. I mean, a LOT of television. Basically, that was all I did besides go swimming. My favorite TV shows were the daytime game shows like Press Your Luck and Let’s Make a Deal. One of the brands that I remember being featured regularly was Speidel Watches.
In fact, my grandmother had a Speidel watch, and I thought that was one of the most amazing things. I even asked her if she’d been on TV, as she couldn’t have possibly, y’know, purchased the watch herself.

Certain people are so difficult to buy gifts for. Especially men. I’ve found that most men like to cook, or at least grill. The Great Meat Cookbook by Bruce Aidells is a fantastic item for those fellas.
The cover of the book states “Everything you need to know to buy and cook today’s meat” and boy, is that true! The Great Meat Cookbook is not just a cookbook, but a primer on how to choose meat and why we should use certain cuts for whichever recipe. It doesn’t leave off there, though. Aidells explains the differences between “grass fed” and “pasture raised” meats, how to store your meat, and even how to defrost frozen meat.
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to interview several authors in conjunction with the Miami Book Fair. The first in the series is Bob Spitz. Bob Spitz is a renowned biographer, working with everyone from rock stars to presidents. His most recent book is Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child.
Q: What inspired you to write this book?
A: I met Julia Child in 1997 in Italy and recognized she was one of the few beloved Americans without a full-scale biography about her. I thought she deserved the royal treatment.
One of the things that I’m always on the lookout for is really unusual items, whether they’re for gifts or for myself. You will rarely find me giving someone a gift that’s plain and normal. It’s just not in me! If you’re planning to go this route, you have to really know your recipient, or have an item that is so spectacularly unique that they’ll love it. I think that Safari: A Photicular Book falls into the spectacularly unique category.
I know you’re like “Ummm…what’s a phot icular book?” It’s this amazing, patented technique that allows a photo to come to life. Instead of being a 3-d, or a pop-up book, the photi cular technique allows for motion in photographs. Individual strips of the photo are spliced together to create a main image. On it’s own, the image is a little blurry. When you add the special lens, and view the photo through that, it comes alive! For this particular Safari book, the animals are running, eating, and doing the various things that you’d hope to see on a safari.

In the last few years, there’s been a proliferation of places to get customized printing done & stationery made. One of the most popular things to get done is either announcements or holiday cards, usually with your own photos incorporated. Paper Culture is one such company that I was totally unfamiliar with.
While you can upload your photos to their cards to make them more personal, they have tons that you don’t have to upload a photo to, as well. I’m going to admit it – I would feel weird sending out Christmas Cards that are a picture of me, since I don’t have kids! And I’m sure people that were on the receiving end might think that was a bit odd too.
