Ombre Hair Chalking with My Hair Chalk

The first time I saw the fun colored ombre hair, I knew that I wanted it for my very own!  I have to admit, though, I was a little concerned about how it would actually look.  I mean, sure, it looked awesome on Lauren Conrad, but on me?  Hmmm….there’s a huge possibility that it would be  like “oh…yeah.  Not such a cute look.”

While trying to convince myself to get this done, I heard about Hair Chalking.  It turns out that you can have the fun multi-color look, without committing to the look permanently.  Whoa!  My Hair Chalk has these awesome color-coordinated kits for hair chalking.

I received one of these hair chalking kits, and was totally anxious to try it out.  The first thing I did was try it on my dry hair, even though the directions say to use damp hair.  It worked, but, not that well.  I also didn’t seal the chalk.  I just wanted to see what it would look like.  I was pretty impressed by the results.

Next, I got the front of my hair wet to try it out – so I can see!!  I tried each of the colors on its own.  They all showed up pretty well, except for the purple.  I think that’s mainly because my hair is kind of a coppery color, and the purple just disappeared into it.  Other than that, though, I really liked the look!

And then a plan was hatched!  The next time I washed my hair, I would create my ombre look and give it a test run for the day.  Oh yeah…I knew I would need some advice, though.  I turned to a hairstylist friend – Jill from Phoenix.  She gave me a few of her stylist secrets like:

  • Keep a spray bottle handy to dampen your hair.
  • Wear gloves and a cape to prevent chalk from getting everywhere.
  • Use a flat iron or curling iron to set the hair chalking.
  • Lightly mist hairspray to help set the chalk
  • Bright colors work better on lighter colored hair,
  • White based or pastel colors work better on darker hair

While another friend – Ashley – gave the super important tip of  – only chalk in ONE DIRECTION!!!  Why?  Because your hair gets frizzy and looks teased!  Then you just want to brush your hair and that ruins the chalking look.  I must admit, I did make the back and forth chalking mistake on the second try.  And my hair did look teased.

However, I was able to get it down, and got lots of compliments.  My look was somewhat subtle, and I’m sure that part of that was due to my hair color.  I took pictures, but the colors didn’t really show up that well in the photo.

Do you or your kids want a multi-color look?  Try out My Hair Chalk for a super fun and temporary look.

I would love to try this. With my dark hair, I can't dye it without bleaching. This would be a great temporary solution.

I really want to try this on my dark hair – it would be fun for going out on dates and other "fun" times.  Thank you for the tips in using it….never would have thought to do it only in one direction.
