AS a kid, I spent a lot of time in transit to places or waiting around. Waiting after school for my mom. On the way to dance classes. On the bus to meets. In a plane, train, or automobile going somewhere for pleasure. It was during this time that I discovered the joys of puzzle books.
Crosswords. Word Searches. Word Jumbles. And the somewhat elusive logic puzzle books. These were my constant companions and time fillers. They were somewhat easy to find, inexpensive, and portable. I could toss one in my backpack, my book, or even my mom’s purse. I’m sure these puzzle books gave others the same hours of enjoyment as people then didn’t have to deal with me annoying them. Heh.
Puzzle Baron has now come out with a whole line of puzzle books for adults. They have logic puzzles, Sudoku, even a book of picture puzzles where you have to figure out the differences.

Now, I love a good logic puzzle, as my brain just sort of works that way. I never understood what was so difficult about math word problems. The puzzles in this book are real brain teasers, though! There’s a little chart next to each puzzle that tells you how many people completed this puzzle successfully and the average time it took. I must say that that can be a little disheartening! Only 58% or people got this right, and it took them 16:31 minutes – oh noooooo!!!!! What hope do I have?
Sudoku is one of those puzzles that I can’t figure out. I think that it’s not so much that I can’t figure it out, it’s just that it doesn’t appeal to me. I think it’s that I like words with my puzzles.

They also sent me the Complete Idiot’s Guide to Picture Puzzles. I must be a complete idiot, because I can rarely find all of the differences!
I usually miss one or two of the changes. I do like these though, as they exercise a different part of the brain. One thing I do like about this book is that the images are in vivid, full color. There’s also a check box for each difference in image that you find.
How about you? Are you a fan of puzzle books?

I LOVE puzzle books! I think it all started with my dad. He got me into crossword puzzles when I was about 8 years old and I've been hooked ever since.
I used to prefer word puzzles too, but once i got into Sudoku, I was hooked!
I love puzzle books! Mom used to buy them for my sister and I before road trips, so we'd sit quietly in the car. It was a great idea and I can't wait to introduce my children to puzzle books once they're older.
I like to do puzzle books of all sort. I think they help keep an older mind active and alive. I buy word searches for alot of my relatives that are in nursing home as they love to do them it keep them busy and the mind off of the aches and pains too. My one doctors office photocopies them and lets them out for the patients that are in the waiting room. I like that they do this
I am not a huge fan of crosswords or math puzzles but I'm a whizz bang at the picture ones. your review made me want to give puzzles another go round. now that I've hit the big 50 I guess I better start on the puzzles to keep the old brain from slowing down too much..
I love that they have picture puzzle books for adults. How fun!
I love sudoku
I love doing word and picture puzzles. I was reading a book about Brain Health and it also suggests doing these kinds of puzzles to keep you mentally healthy! I also love to make the puzzles, it can take longer, but it is as much fun.
Glad to see the review for these books. I feel locked into just the PennyPress and Variety puzzles. Now I know to look for some books.
Thanks!
I actually get so frustrated with puzzles but my mom is a master at any of them so if I win these, I will be giving them to her as a gift!
LOL A Guide to puzzles! I love the Cryptograms and sometimes Sudoko. They say puzzles help your brain.
